Madikeri Trip ,Local Shopping and Chamundi Hills , Part 3

Our plan for the day was to checkout from the hotel after having our breakfast which was complimentary with our stay and then do some local shopping and then head for Nagarhole. We intended to spend the night at some homestay at Nagarhole.

Just after biding adieu to the sleepy town (because of Covid, tourists were very less ) and within some 5 kilometres we saw some local shops. All these shops sell local and preservative free products such as coffee, soaps, spices, honey, oils and several things like that which are common in such type of shops in all hill stations all over South India. As a principal wherever we travel we always try to buy some local stuffs to help the local economy and this time it was more important. because of covid, the people related to tourism have greatly suffered everywhere. So we got a lot of stuffs that included face creams, face masks, body scrubs, soaps, coffee, spices( cardamon, cinnamon, Sri Lankan cinnamon, bird eye chilli, nutmeg ,cloves), honey, yam chips and Coorg chocolates. The Coorg chocolates were too good.

The shop owner also took us to his another shop that was some 200 meters away. That shop was specifically for home made Coorg wines. He had great collection of wines ranging from 1 year to 15 years old and the best part is that all are home made by the women. There was cranberry wine which we got to know that local women consume for good skin. Apart from that there was mulberry, date, grape,ginger...you just name it, chances are high they have it.

Next there was a sudden change in plan. Our initial plan as I already wrote before was to stay for the night at Nagarhole. However we had no booking as we thought that we might get walk-in rooms. However we were so wrong. Not even a single homestay (before the National Park or after crossing it ) had rooms. It was a Sunday and it seemed everyone wanted a short break after months of staying inside homes :)

So we had to make a decision whether to drive straight to Bengaluru or halt at Mysuru. We decided for the latter since Bengaluru would be a little hectic more for the kids.

The drive through Nagarhole was so so green. Because of monsoon, the forest there was lush green overgrowth everywhere and because of which nothing was visible. I mean if an animal is standing just by the side of the road, it would be impossible to see it because of the dense bushes and tall grasses. It was a different avatar of Nagarhole that we got to witness, not even close to ideal for animal spotting but it gave an eerie feeling of how an actual jungle feels if it is left to grow on its own without any humans close by.

It was raining heavily in Mysuru when we reached after an uneventful journey. We checked into hotel 'Sepoy Grande' on MG Road. We took a suite room which had a balcony overlooking the main road. The room interiors were very tastefully done and made to resemble a palace interior. Do check the video please:)  The kebab platter that we ordered from their kitchen was outstanding and I definitely recommend that incase you visit Mysuru, taste the chicken kebab platter from their restaurant.

Next day, after checking out from the hotel, we went to Chamundi Hills which took us less than 30 minutes to reach the. top. The road leading to the Chamundi hills is very beautiful and absolutely scenic. There are view points on the road, from where one can have a complete view of the Mysuru city from above. At the Chamundi temple now there is MLCP parking from where one can also enjoy the scenic views.

Just 2 km from Chamundi hill is the Nandi statue that is a little diversion from the way down. We followed the markers on the road and visited the Nandi statue.Soon drizzle started and we had to be back into our car. Thus ended our post Covid Madikeri trip.
